Sun, Sea & Snorkelling... | Egypt

My favourite thing about summer?... Going on holiday!
Getting on a plane and heading off to another corner of the world is something that excites me greatly, and something I look forward to all year round! This summer, I was fortunate enough to go on holiday to Sharm El Sheik in Egypt, which was actually my first time in a continent other than Europe... Fun fact; Egypt is mostly part of Africa but the Sinai Peninsula where Sharm is located is in Asia! So technically, I have now been to Asia... *sass click*
I went with my Mum and younger sister, and we stayed in the Holiday Village Red Sea. We stayed in the Holiday Village in Kos last summer, and loved it so much that we decided to be a little more exotic and try the one in Egypt.
I can honestly say, I had such an amazing time! I'm not entirely sure if it was the "best" holiday I've ever been on, because Kos is hard to beat... I'd say I loved them both equally for different reasons.

The hotel itself was stunning, and being all inclusive with a private beach is something you don't get to experience often... Definitely took advantage of that! With it being a Holiday Village that's tailored to families, there's always something to do. The various kids club activities meant my sister was out of my hair for the majority of the day (hallelujah), and I could relax, read a book or listen to music, bliss!

Now, as you can imagine, being in Egypt in July, it was HOT! The highest temperature recorded while I was there was 46°C, so I was constantly climbing in and out of the pool to cool down.

The view from my balcony

I spent the first few days of the two weeks I was there for simply sunbathing and swimming, with the occasional trip to the lobby to use the WiFi, and just getting a general feel for the complex and staff (all of whom were brilliant and so hilarious too!). In the evening, I would go for dinner with my family and basically chill out more. As the days went on, I eventually made some friends, and I genuinely love them all! I think that one of the best things about holidays is meeting people, especially being a teenager, it's nice to have friends on holiday!

My first friend, and definitely my best friend that I made, was Charlie. I met her a few days after I'd arrived, and we became friends instantly! Our personalities are extremely similar, we have a heck of a lot in common, and we're both as insane as each other... I guess you could say it was a friendship made in heaven! We literally spent all day every day with each other, from 9:30am to 5:00pm, and then again from 9:00pm until 12:00am... Yet, we never ran out of things to talk about! The majority of the time we spent together, was spent laughing... We always managed to make each other laugh until our sides and cheeks ached, whether it was embarrassing ourselves in front of a cute guy, doing the Chocolate Dance in the pool, or taking part in Aqua Fit, it almost always ended in tears of laughter!

Charlie and Me

It was my Mum's birthday whilst we were there, and we decided to do something a little different to celebrate... We booked an excursion to take a boat trip out into the coral reefs in the Red Sea, and go snorkelling! Unfortunately, my sister doesn't have great sea legs, and threw up about six times during the few hours we were on the boat... I, on the other hand, loved it! The snorkelling itself was absolutely breathtaking, the crystal clear blue waters were out of this world, and the bright corals and fish that lurk within them were stunning! It was my first experience snorkelling, and although I was slightly worried to begin with, once I actually got in the water and started swimming, I didn't want to get out!

Another "first" on my holiday, was riding a camel... You can't go to Egypt and not ride a camel! The hotel itself actually owned one called Bobby Thomson! Myself, my Mum and sister all had a ride, and although they both found it uncomfortable, especially when Bobby stood up and sat back down again, I loved it! The ride was only short, just a walk around the beach, but definitely worth it! There's another tick off my bucket list!

Later that same evening, we walked down the hotel's jetty where I managed to get some amazing pictures as the sun was starting to set...

Unfortunately, Charlie left a few days before I did, along with another friend who we made called Ellis. On their last day, we all spent it together, as well as with yet another friend in our little group called Billy. We did the pool party dances, as per usual, as well as Aqua Fit, and we even took part in the daily quiz... The topic of that day's quiz was sport, so considering we were playing with two teenage boys who were both football mad, we gave it go... Our team name was Team Stickers, and after getting 17 out of 20 and ending up in a tie-break question with three other teams... We won!

We claimed our certificate with great pride, and even took some celebratory team pictures with our favourite rep, Lewis!

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end... Charlie and Ellis left, Team Stickers was disbanded, leaving just Billy and me. We spent the remaining days in the pool and chilling out, until the time came when I left as well... I started crying as soon as we started to walk out of the hotel, and many teary hugs and several hours later, I was home.

Like I said earlier, I had an fantastic time, made even better by the amazing people I met.

I hope you enjoyed this holiday post, and reading about everything I got up to in the two weeks I was away for!
